{"id":912,"date":"2024-07-25T20:54:01","date_gmt":"2024-07-26T01:54:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/claudiachan.co\/?p=912"},"modified":"2024-07-28T20:58:26","modified_gmt":"2024-07-29T01:58:26","slug":"why-is-it-difficult-to-claim-your-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/evercraftleather.com\/claudiachan\/why-is-it-difficult-to-claim-your-power\/","title":{"rendered":"Why is it difficult to claim your power?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today I want to talk about this concept of power, because I saw this video from Sven, where he talks about the 3 types of power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>\u200b<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=s-vd1vGPIyg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/functions-js.convertkit.com\/playbutton?play=%23324C85&amp;accent=%23ffffff&amp;thumbnailof=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2Fs-vd1vGPIyg%3Fsi%3DZrY0E1JEJlfDKHV1&amp;width=480&amp;height=270&amp;fit=contain\" alt=\"video preview\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/preview.convertkit-mail2.com\/click\/dpheh0hzhm\/aHR0cHM6Ly95b3V0dS5iZS9zLXZkMXZHUEl5Zz9zaT1aclkwRTFKRUpsZkRLSFYx\">\u200b<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And what I want to talk about is, why it\u2019s so hard to claim this power for ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recently, I heard a few people, including one of my clients, say, \u201cI am just fed up that my parents would just call me, and all they want is for me to send them money or do things for them. And they never even ask how I am doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And even on Reddit, where people would talk about how their parents are making them invite people they don\u2019t want to their weddings, or else they\u2019re not going to show up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So it\u2019s either, forcing them to do something they don\u2019t want, or not allowing them to do the things that they want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Sven\u2019s video, he talks about how we have to realize that we have the power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And we can claim this power for ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And yet it\u2019s a very difficult thing for many people to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because it\u2019s like in the Spiderman movie, \u201cWith great power, comes great responsibility\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As cheesy as it sounds, it is so real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Responsibility over ourselves.<br>\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I will share 2 responsibilities with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1) taking full responsibilities for our actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no longer someone we can rely on to tell us what to do, which means, if things go wrong, we don\u2019t have anyone else to blame except for ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I was dating my now husband, one of the things that kept looping in my mind is this: \u201cWhat if I made the wrong decision?\u201d (Translates to: what if mom was right?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What if I was dumb enough to marry this guy, he hurt me, I would have to suffer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If I\u2019d gone ahead with the decision, I could no longer say, \u201cBut you told me to do it!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That responsibility is mine to take on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b<br>\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2) taking on the responsibility for our\u00a0<strong>awareness<\/strong>\u00a0and our\u00a0<strong>own healing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While living in a co-dependent world, most of us were raised in a \u201ctransactional\u201d relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If I do this for you, you owe me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So you have to repay me in some way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If I give this to you, there is an unspoken debt, that I expect you to give something back to me\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In my household, whenever we get something from other people, my mom would always make it a point to \u201cgive back\u201d something that is equivalent to that amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone treats us to dinner, she may give back money through red pockets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If they got us gifts, she may treat them to dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And especially in the Chinese culture, because of this value called filial piety, it\u2019s ingrained in our psyche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Where the parents sacrificed themselves for their kids and family, so when the kids grow up, they are responsible for taking care of the parents.<br>\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course in the ideal world, it is filled with love and free will, and because everyone feels loved, they would choose to do the loving thing. And it is still a choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But when the parents have gone to the extreme, taking full advantage of the kids, disrespecting them, and not acknowledging their hurtful actions, then the Child needs to take on this power to become\u00a0<strong>aware<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHey! That\u2019s enough! What you\u2019d been doing is wrong, and I\u2019m tired of your BS!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And this power comes with a lot backlash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guilt - when the parents turn the victim mentality around, saying that it\u2019s the kid who\u2019s now being disrespectful, and harping on how much they\u2019d sacrificed for the kid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isolation - when the parents get other people to gang up on them, turning their backs on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shame - when the parents talk about how disappointed they are because their kids are bad, and getting other people to talk about them negatively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And our power is to take on the responsibility to\u00a0<strong>heal<\/strong>\u00a0(after awareness).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because no one can change us, and we cannot change others. We can only change ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have to be responsible for taking care of our emotions and do our own healing, so that we can stand stronger for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b\u200b<br>And that is what claiming your power looks like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Realizing that we have the power, and being ready to take on the responsibility for the power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is not easy, yet on the other side, it is so freeing\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What if you can finally say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am doing this because this is the best for me, and I allow other people to be mad at me and I\u2019m ok with that!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I can now say no to requests when it\u2019s not in alignment with me, and I don\u2019t feel the need to explain why I\u2019m saying no.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And being able to say: yes, my kids are doing something that goes against me, AND I\u2019m proud that they\u2019re growing up to be their own person, I no longer feel the need to control them and their actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What about you?<br>\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine this power is right in front of you, what would you like to say about your life once you claim that power?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And for sure, the middle ugly stuff will come up, and know that I am right here when you\u2019re ready to go on this journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you\u2019re ready, you can always book a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/claudiachan.simplybook.me\/v2\/#book\/service\/2\/count\/1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">free 20-min consultation<\/a>\u00a0with me.<br>\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s get you on this journey where you are truly powerful over your own life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today I want to talk about this concept of power, because I saw this video from Sven, where he talks about the 3 types of power. \u200b\u200b \u200b And what I want to talk about is, why it\u2019s so hard to claim this power for ourselves.
